Joseph Martin Waters
Story Creator, Composer, Librettist and Lyricist
Joseph Martin Waters is a composer and music director known for visionary operas that fuse myth, philosophy, and contemporary storytelling. A graduate of the Yale School of Music and professor of composition at San Diego State University, Waters is the creative force behind genre-blurring works such as The Magic Hummingbird – El Colibrí Mágico and El Sidd & The Healers. His productions combine orchestral power with rock, jazz, and global influences, often enhanced by cinematic visuals and surreal imagery. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to artistic experimentation, cultural dialogue, and social transformation.
NWEAMO Mission:
to forge connections between the composers, performers and lovers of avant garde classical music and the DJs, MCs, guitar-gods, troubadours and gourmets of experimental popular music. When there is no connection, both suffer: When classical music does not connect with popular culture, it becomes a music of experts, unable to reflect and contribute meaningfully in the broad marketplace of developing ideas and cultural experimentation. When popular music has no connection and communication with the classical it becomes naive and superficial, untethered to its historical roots and broad cultural underpinnings. A healthy cultural milieu celebrates both.
