Music Director – Richard Duñez Morrison
Richard Duñez Morrison is a beloved fixture of the San Diego musical theatre scene—an in-demand music director, gifted keyboard artist, and trusted collaborator whose artistry has shaped some of the region’s most celebrated productions. He has worked closely with the creator of El Sidd & The Healers for the past seven years, guiding their previous project The Magic Hummingbird from its earliest workshop roots to a fully staged production at Opera Tijuana in 2023. Known for his ability to lead with both precision and heart, Richard frequently conducts ensembles from the keyboard, channeling an unmistakable musical energy that lifts every performance.
Richard’s career spans stages across the country, including Radio City Productions, Goodspeed Musicals, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Hope Repertory Theatre, Pearl Theatre, and New York University. At home in San Diego, he has worked at The Old Globe, Cygnet Theatre, Moonlight Stage Productions, Diversionary Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre, San Diego Opera, Civic Light Opera, Triple Espresso, Coronado Playhouse, San Diego Junior Theatre, and is currently the resident music director at San Diego Musical Theatre.
He holds an MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University and a BFA in Stage Management from Webster University. He also teaches as an adjunct professor of musical theatre at San Diego City College. When not deep in a score or shaping a show, Richard is a passionate collector of maps, movies, and showbiz memoirs.
